The Kaplen Pavilion Update

Campaign Background

Englewood Hospital and Medical Center opened The Kaplen Pavilion on September 21, 2009. Since then, the Emergency Care Center has had over 75,000 patient visits, achieved the 90th percentile rating in patient satisfaction in the 4th quarter of last year and exceeded the national benchmark for “An Outstanding Emergency Experience” according to J.D. Power and Associates.

“Our patients have always received excellent care in the,” said Douglas A. Duchak, president and CEO of the Medical Center. “Our new emergency care center will accommodate the growing number of patients we are seeing as well as provide our patients and their loved ones with the privacy and comfort they expect and deserve.”

The pavilion is named for philanthropists Maggie and Bill Kaplen, who made the lead gift of five million dollars that officially launched Lifeline to Tomorrow—Our Campaign for An Emergency Care Center, the drive that will fund the project. The Kaplens are two of the Medical Center’s greatest benefactors and most devoted supporters. In 2004, they were the first recipients of the Medical Center’s Touchstone Award, which is presented for leadership in exceptional philanthropy and community service. Maggie is currently a member of the Medical Center’s Board of Trustees, and Bill served as a board member for 25 years.
