2008 Black Tie Gala
A Great Success: The Biggest in Medical Center History A magical evening at the Annual Black Tie Gala raised $740,000 to benefit essential programs and services at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. President and CEO Douglas A. Duchak was honored for his outstanding leadership and the 120th anniversary of the hospital’s founding was celebrated.
When Douglas A. Duchak, tonight’s honoree, was introduced at the groundbreaking ceremony for The Kaplen Pavilion in March 2008, he was greeted with a huge round of applause. It was a flashback to the day when employees were told that Doug would be taking over the top job at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center. The crowd was jubilant when then-chairman Andrew F. Durkin made the announcement.
“Doug is not ‘well-liked,’ but ‘well-loved,’ says Richard J. Kurtz, chairman of Englewood Hospital and Medical Center Foundation and a Medical Center trustee. “He is a great leader who has won the respect, loyalty, and affection of the Medical Center family. Doug is especially adept at bringing together talented people to achieve a common goal, particularly his senior management team. It is to his credit that so many fine physicians, employees, volunteers, trustees, and donors want to be part of this dynamic, growing organization.”
A lavish cocktail reception attended by almost 600 guests preceded a performance by magician and illusionist Peter Gossamer. Eyewitness News anchor Lori Stokes, a Medical Center trustee, was master of ceremonies. The evening ended with an array of delectable desserts.
The Gala, which was sponsored by the Foundation, was held at Rockleigh Country Club on May 10.
